A funny thing happened to me on the way to the Museum of Modern Art...
My wife and I were in town on our annual pilgrimage to see family and friends. We were on our way to meet our friends at MOMA to see the Pixar exhibit, and took the subway to Rockefeller Center. We shared the elevator from the lower level to the street with two men and a woman who were speaking together in a foreign language, possibly Russian. After a moment they all laughed and then began to sing. In English. "Rollin' rollin' rollin'..." Yup, the theme from Rawhide. Lorin and I looked at each other and shrugged. Where did that come from?
It didn't occur to me until yesterday, that it was my hat that triggered their amusement. I was wearing a wide-brimmed fedora, which I never wear at home because it's not cold enough here. Anyway, it's not the sort of hat that anyone but a foreigner might mistake for a cowboy hat, but there you are...
